Seeing as this is my first post and nothing and no one on Earth besides Google, my dog Rocky, and I know about this blog’s creation, it would seem as though I’m talking to myself.  I’ll change that when I’m ready. 🙂

I’ve been thinking for a while about creating a blog to share what I enjoy doing in my spare time – designing and creating Stuff.  “Stuff” includes, but is not limited to: making cakes and jewelry, sewing, and repurposing old/vintage/antique items (some would go so far as to refer to these items as ‘junk,’ but junk is one of my best friends!). 

Which brings us to the main topic of this, my first post:  my first re-upholstery project.   It began the same as most of my projects begin: I dive right in having no idea what I’m doing. Typically, this tendency results in a list of “do’s” and “don’ts,” which I will happily share here.

Back to the chair.  I found a great blog through Pinterest with an upholstery tutorial that is currently serving as my only road map.  I wouldn’t have had the guts to begin this project without it, despite the fact that the fabric for it has been leaning against a wall in my Yellow Room (which is a work in progress and to which you will be introduced when the time is right) for close to six months now.  I had originally planned to make a slipcover, but honestly, I hate the look of slipcovers.  So reupholstering it is!

The Ugly Chair

This is the hideous chair my husband bought at a yard sale for $5 when we were in college (it came with a great slipcover that matched the cushion and didn’t even look like a slipcover, but since it would make this project much simpler to use said slipcover as a pattern, of course it has disappeared).  I actually kind of liked the chair in its ‘Before’ state when it was in the house he lived in in college.  It was great in that house.  But it totally clashes with the colors in my Yellow Room, and it’s time to do something about it besides throwing a blanket over to hide it.

My goal is to work on this project in my free time over the next few weeks and get it done as soon as possible…but I have no idea how long it will actually take.  Be on the lookout for an updated post with the finished project!
