Button Clock

You know the saying – ‘time flies when you’re having fun’.  For me, that’s especially true when I’m working in my Yellow Room (the extremely creative name I came up with for my sewing room – because the walls are yellow).  As soon as I get started on something in there, an hour immediately passes. Then I look at the time again and another 30 minutes have passed.

Dog Toy Box from Old Milk Crate

After we got our second dog about a year ago, the number of dog toys lying around the house multiplied and I finally got tired enough of tripping over them to do something about it.  They needed a home, even if they would still wind up spread all over the house over time.  I decided I wanted to find a cute wooden crate, attach some kind of feet to it, and toss all the toys inside – but not one of those unfinished ones from the craft store.  I’ve got a few of those storing other things around the house, but I wanted this one to be different.

Lace Dress Refashioned from Antique Store Muumuu

Hello, long-lost little blog!  I found this dress made of beautiful blue-purple lace (or, blurple) for $2.50 at an antique store last fall and it has since hung in the closet waiting to see the light of day.  I’m not actually sure if it qualifies as a muumuu, but it’s close, so I’m calling it that for now.  I thought I should hurry up and give it some attention while lace is still ‘in’, so decided to fix it up to wear to a friend’s wedding last week.

New Vanity from Thrifted Desk

One of the projects I referred to in yesterday’s post is the new vanity I made…in August.  I had the idea that I wanted to start back to blogging with this project after my unannounced break, and though I completed it in August, I kept waiting.  The main reason was that I wanted to wait to unveil it after I found just the right chair to go with it…but I had difficulty finding what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, so I kept delaying.  Sure, I could have posted the vanity as it was and posted the new chair when I found it as a separate post, but I was convinced that I would find one quickly.  Days ticked by…then weeks…then months…and here I am in March returning to the blog…and I’m posting them separately anyway to keep the posts a bit shorter!  Oh well.  Now that you have (entirely too much) boring background information, I’ll get to the exciting stuff.

Alien Costume from Thrifted Vest

As I briefly mentioned in a post a few months ago, I ran the Disney World Marathon this past January.  And you can’t very easily run 26.2 miles at the most magical place on Earth and not dress for the occasion!  I’m not a run-in-a-skirt kind of girl, and I didn’t want to wear a crown, or anything else that would become annoying to wear for FOUR HOURS.  I originally thought about a Mickey costume, but I didn’t want to search for red shorts and wasn’t sure about running with the ears.  As it turned out, my marathon shoes were lime green and bright blue and reminded me a little bit of the Toy Story alien (remember this guy?).  Plus, I also had a pair of shorts in the same bright blue, so I decided to dress like the little guy.  As I am quite the procrastinator, I started working on this costume only the weekend before the race, but everything came out just fine in the end.

Ugly Thrift Store Skirt into Cute Tote Bag

I found this faux-suede-ish skirt at the Goodwill near my house a few weeks ago, not sure what I would do with it when I got it home. After I washed it, I discovered that it fit alright and debated just cutting off the extra length to make a knee-length pencil skirt and using the excess to make a bag but decided against it. I decided I would never wear it as a skirt because I really don’t actually like the fabric, and there wouldn’t be enough fabric left to make a very big bag.  I thought that the ugly skirt fabric looked great with this bright floral fabric so I scrapped the pencil skirt idea and turned it into a cute tote bag instead.
