Spring is the time to be outside when you live in the south.  Before the mosquitoes come out in force and the temperature and humidity climb to 100, you better enjoy the outdoors.  When summer comes, it’s time to retreat back inside!

Reality hit hard this week after three full & fun Reality hit hard this week after three full & fun days in NYC! It was weird and wonderful not to be responsible for the tiniest details of life at home for a few days…and to finally have the Frozen soundtrack out of my head, if only briefly.

It’s going to be very beautiful there in a few weeks when spring explodes and all the flowers & trees are in bloom, and we got a nice preview.
When I built this play kitchen I was approximately When I built this play kitchen I was approximately 1 year pregnant with the baby 🤪 and it’s so satisfying to see them playing in it together now.
We did something a little crazy last week. So the We did something a little crazy last week. So the Mister wouldn’t miss the baby’s first birthday while he was at a conference in Boston, we packed up a couple carry-ons and a few personal items and all 4 boarded the plane!

The girls behaved as well as we could have asked for for both flights, and we all enjoyed exploring the city together outside of the conference hours. The girls and I are used to spending a lot of Mama-daughter time together at home during the work week while the Mister commutes, so it was fun (and challenging, in a small un-baby-proofed city apartment!) to have a change of scenery for the a few days.

We visited a chocolate factory, the aquarium, had lunch at Quincy Market, rode many T trains, walked a LOT around our neighborhood in Cambridge, pretended to be city kids for a couple hours at the nearby playground, and of course, celebrated the little one’s birthday.

It was cold and rainy (and even snowed some!), girls were tired due to the travel and the time change, the apartment didn’t come with a crib or high chair so we had to travel with those (and managed to do it with only the carry-ons!). There were so many little challenges planning for the trip that I initially adamantly refused to pack us up and go, but eventually the Mister wore me down (and listened to all 112 of my concerns) and we figured out solutions to all of them. Sure, it’s hard to travel with kids, but lots of things are hard with kids! It would have been easier to stay at home, but I’m so glad we went. Even more special- the 3-year-old is at an age where she’s likely to remember this trip. ✈️

Somebody got a bed! It took over 3 years for this Somebody got a bed! It took over 3 years for this room to fully come together, and I think we can officially put it on the DONE list now! The big girl moved out about a year ago, and it’s been empty ever since. Back in the summer, I finally painted it, and over the weekend the big girl helped her daddy assemble the crib for her little sister. 🎊
It’s that time of year! My favorite cranberry br It’s that time of year! My favorite cranberry bread is special because it was my grandmother’s recipe. She passed away two years ago 8 days before her 98th birthday and would have turned 100 next week.

It’s funny, I always buy the cranberries as soon as I see them at the grocery store each November. Then I intend to make the bread nearly every day in December. But for years, it’s been January before I actually get around to making it. Perhaps that’s appropriate, given the facts in the paragraph above.

The recipe says to let the loaf sit for a full 24 hours before cutting. It’s true that the flavors seem to get stronger and it’s even more delicious after a day has passed, but I’ve never made it more than an hour before I slice through its crisp outer crust and enjoy the first bite.
