My aunt recently cleaned out her closet and sewing stash and gave me the equivalent of a few suitcases worth of beautiful clothes and fabrics. Vintage clothing made of linen, wool, and silk, and yards upon yards of wool, velvet, and a few decorator fabrics. This beautiful blue wool sweater dress demanded to be the first to receive a makeover.

Thread Spool Dry Erase Board
The Mister got me this dry erase board for Christmas, and it was just a bit plain. I had the perfect place to hang it right between my giant bulletin/magnet board and the door to my sewing room, but I wanted to jazz it up a bit first. I thought of one of the first things I pinned on Pinterest when I joined it a couple of years ago and decided to do something similar. So I pulled out some spools that were leftover from various other projects and got to work.

You know the saying – ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. For me, that’s especially true when I’m working in my Yellow Room (the extremely creative name I came up with for my sewing room – because the walls are yellow). Hello, long-lost little blog! I found this dress made of beautiful blue-purple lace (or, blurple) for $2.50 at an antique store last fall and it has since hung in the closet waiting to see the light of day. I thought I should hurry up and give it some attention while lace is still ‘in’, so decided to fix it up to wear to a friend’s wedding last week.

Vintage Thread Spool Ornaments
I decided that since it’s ‘beginning to look a lot like Christmas,’ it was time to bust out a Christmas-themed project. So I came up with the idea of making these thread spool ornaments. The project began simpler than it finished up, though. Originally, I was just going to make a Santa ornament…but then he seemed lonely, so I made him 2 elves. Then I decided they were incomplete without Rudolph…and then I decided that 4 ornaments were enough for now!
