This project is getting so close! This afternoon This project is getting so close!

This afternoon I’m choosing art and photos to include in the girl’s new bedroom, then I’ll gather frames to go with them. We’ve got a nice collection of prints from aunts, grandmothers, thrift stores, books, and vacation souvenirs, and we did a little mother-daughter art project a couple weeks ago so our daughter could contribute to her room, too (see previous post!).

The goal is to choose and frame all the art and photos this week...then it’s anyone’s guess whether or not we’ll get them hung before the little baby arrives soon! 🤞
Lessons learned doing art with a 2-year-old: 1- Ne Lessons learned doing art with a 2-year-old:
1- Never go into it with an idea of what your final piece will look like. When you’re 98% finished, she will add her own flourish to your canvas and you’ll have to paint over it. 😩
2- You can never have enough pink paint. 🎨
3- Toddler art can pass for something that would go in a museum or sell for thousands of dollars. 💵
4- Have paper towels and baby wipes handy. Lots and lots of paper towels and baby wipes. There will be many teachable moments about cleaning up after yourself. 🧼
5- The art session can last for hours. Be prepared with a large stack of paper and a large area for drying. 📄
6- There might be a tantrum/breakdown when you announce it’s time to stop for snack/potty/lunch/nap...or all of the above. 😢
7- When the child is finished, she doesn’t go back and make multiple changes/‘improvements’ like an adult might. She simply says ‘all done’ and moves on to the next one. Maybe there’s a lesson there! 🧐

Check my stories for a few fun (also stressful) moments from our morning painting session!
I didn’t *quite* finish the four projects I set I didn’t *quite* finish the four projects I set out to complete this week with @loweryhousetohome @thecarsonhome @makingitwithabby for #diylikeamother, but I made great progress (as you might imagine, the ‘mother’ part sometimes presents a challenge to the ‘diy’ part).

They might LOOK finished here, but 2 of the 4 are creatively staged to look that way. Bonus points if you can figure out which ones are which! Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. 😁

I’ll jump in with @lifeonwillowcreek @demolition.des @rockycanyonrustic for #flippingthroughfebruary to finish these four pieces and wrap up the rest of the lingering tasks in the big girl room this month. We’re hoping to move her in soon, with plenty of time to get used to her new space before she becomes a big sister.

To be continued...
I put my best assistant to work this morning as I I put my best assistant to work this morning as I finally finished prepping the board and batten for paint. She was very proud of her ‘accomplishment’ 🤗 I love that she’s been able to contribute (and also, ‘contribute’ 🤣) to the work we’ve done in her new bedroom.

I’m hoping to completely finish painting this weekend so we can roll the antique pink rug back out tomorrow afternoon 🤞 and move on to fun stuff like curtains and furniture!

It’s such a relief to finally see an end in sight (of painting, anyway)! 😃
We’re within 2 months of this baby’s arrival, We’re within 2 months of this baby’s arrival, and there’s a lot left to do before I kick up my feet and relax for the final few weeks. 🤞

After the closet build for our 2-year-old left me tireder than expected a couple weeks ago, I took it easy last week. Small organizing projects here and there added up to make this house look and feel so much less cluttered, and I’m grateful that slowing down allowed me time to complete those pesky little tasks.

Over the weekend, we teamed up to add board and batten to the 2-year-old’s new room, and I’m so excited about it!

This week is focused on painting, and I’m taking it slower and in smaller chunks each day because at 32 weeks it’s tough to go-go-go like I’m used to doing! It’s frustrating to slow down so much, but I’m so excited to see this room come together and share it with you - and especially to share it with our big girl in a few weeks.
Are you really a parent if you’ve never been out Are you really a parent if you’ve never been out in the garage finishing up/assembling a gift for your child(ren) on Christmas Eve an hour past your own usual bedtime? If so, I’m now officially a parent. 😁

The idea for this kitchen struck me back in October. Our daughter was playing while I folded laundry and as I watched her I realized she was making believe she was baking muffins. What a great imagination! My mind went to the extra craft storage cube I had and I figured out a way to extract another from my storage wall. Those cubes made up the base of this kitchen! The tall cabinet was just taking up space (storing about 1000 golf tees 🤷‍♀️) in the garage, and it’s now a pantry/fridge. Ok, so there’s currently no door on it... but I’ll get there!

I shared the last couple days’ work in my stories this afternoon, so if you want to see how it all came together, check them out! And look for a blog post in the next few weeks with more before/afters and a LOT of ‘during’, plus all the sources for the cute little accessories and a budget breakdown (I’m curious to see for myself what the damage was!).
We made it back to South Carolina from Texas this We made it back to South Carolina from Texas this week, and we’re now settling back into ‘normal’ life at home after 2 weeks on the road. And unfortunately, the Christmas cactus no longer looks this good (the plant is fine, but the blossoms have wilted).

It’s been an endless blur of unpacking and laundry since the minute we walked in the door. I’m excited to resume work on the play kitchen now that we’re back (finally finished sharing the progress from before the trip in my stories yesterday), but I’m at the point of the project where it just feels like I’ll never finish. I’m powering through, though, because it’s gonna be so cute when I’m done!
Last year when I finished up this One Room Challen Last year when I finished up this One Room Challenge laundry room, there wasn’t money in the budget for a pretty new light fixture, so the builder-grade fixture stayed put. But we had received a damaged one from Wayfair earlier that year and because of the type of damage they said not to send it back; they’d just send us a replacement. So being the resourceful DIY-er that I am, I sanded and spray painted over the cracked, chipped, and rusted fixture with pretty copper spray paint by @rustoleum.

Then it sat in the garage for a year, and I spray painted it agin to hide the scratches that caused. And then it made it inside but sat in a closet for another few months so I sprayed it AGAIN to fix those scratches.

We finally got around to hanging it a few weeks ago, but we didn’t have the part we needed to convert it from a chandelier to a flush mount fixture (turns out I didn’t need to spray that chain three times...). And now - the work is FINALLY complete! The new fixture adds an old feel to the room, and I love how bright the space is now. Swipe to see what the room looked like before 😬 It was a low-budget project, only $250 for all the cabinets (the majority of the budget), lumber, supplies, and decor. As always, I used supplies and decor I already had to stretch the budget further. A little bit can go a long way!

Persistence (and patience) pays off!!
Wow, November went quickly (like the rest of the m Wow, November went quickly (like the rest of the months this year)! It was a productive one in our house, as I wrapped up the transformation of my sewing room into a guest room + sewing room and also started on a couple new projects that I’m excited to share more of in December: our daughter’s new ‘big girl’ bedroom and a play kitchen, which will be a Christmas present for her (shhh!).

The year is drawing to a close, so I’m attempting to make realistic goals as to what can and can’t be accomplished before 2021 rolls around. What does your December look like?
